SunTrust Mortgage, Inc. is the nation’s 15th largest residential mortgage lender, with headquarters in Richmond, Virginia, and 135 locations across the country. The company, which dates back to 1927, is the 13th largest servicer of mortgage loans in the U.S. SunTrust achieved a portfolio of $70 billion in 2004; it is the 15th largest loan originator in the nation with $30.2 billion in total mortgage production for 2004.

When SunTrust Banks, Inc. acquired Crestar Financial Corporation of Richmond, Virginia, in 1998, SunTrust Mortgage was created from the merger of the former Crestar Mortgage Corporation with SunTrust’s first-mortgage residential lending company. The company maintains retail relationships in seven states in the Southeast - Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia and the District of Columbia, and correspondent and wholesale relationships in 48 states. It services loans in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
